You guys….this baby was a rockstar. While I normally book newborns well in advance, he was a little bit of a last minute booking and was already over 2 weeks old for his newborn session when his parents brought him to me all the way from Eldersburg, MD. Every newborn photographer will tell you something different when asked what the optimal age is for a newborn session, and I firmly believe that is because there really is no definite. I’ve gone through periods when I tried to schedule for as early as possible, phases where I avoided 10-12 days like the plague because of the dreaded “10 day growth spurt”, and then decided for a while that 10-14 days was awesome. Now…I look at the calendar for a rough estimate of how old baby will be on the days that I have open after they are born, but there is no hard and fast age rule any more for me! It ALL depends on the baby, and I think we can agree that ALL babies are different! Grayson was one of those babies who went into every pose like a champ, slept the whole time, woke to eat, and went back to sleep, all while being *gasp*, over 2 weeks old! Every baby who comes through my studio doors is amazing and beautiful, and I want to keep them all (if only it weren’t weird to ask parents to leave them with me for just a LITTLE while more, hehe). But newborn photography can be HARD, so it is a treat to have one of these super easy going babies once in a while.
